Skins and walls from Ron Meijer
Published on August 13, 2004 By Styl-X Design In WinCustomize Talk
I would like a honest opinion about my new webdesign. Don't comment on spelling, I know, will be fixed in 2 day when it goes 'official'.

Thanks. Also, if you see any flaws in code/design, let me know.

Get a different affixiation other than .com and you'd be set!

A clear site name is worth a lot, I figured that out by not registering style-x (its styl-x now.. without the E )

We are currently going trough the proces of registering a name, slogan and domain name so you guys will soon hear more about this

Ok, can someone (with a fast connection) do me a favor?
Some of you might know the terrible slow speed my site used to be but now....

Styl-X Reloaded!

http://www.styl-x.com

check it out... is it fast or what?
on Aug 20, 2004
anyone who can tell me if the site is now at a reasonable or good speed?
on Aug 20, 2004
Its really quick! But you need to change the Skindicate and Skyndicate parts to match up. There are some of each scattered throughout the main page.

The first thing I saw when I loaded the site was Skydicate, and i thought to myself... Hmmm I didn't know Dangruss and treetog got back together. Then I thought... Hmmm, Maybe it's a play on Lynrd Skynrd.

Why not callit Rumpled4skyn, as it seems you want to piss on someone else's reputation, and steal (ahemmm..apropriate their IP.ie..their name)

I mean why not call a spade a spade, or a skyn a skin, and be done with it.
If you are merely going to change some letters in someones name, then how is it to be known that you, are not just rebranding others peoples art work, interfaces, and other IP as well?

What do you think is going to turn up Googling, when this gets done, and your prospective clients see that you are a Hack? and a member of a Hack group? One good blog and your Skyndicate is Toast. People are being nice and explaining to you the Error of your ways. you strike me as an adolescent or Tweenie (Twenty Something), that thinks you know more than you do. you can wave facts and Registered this and Copyrighted That around, but the fact is if you keep the NAme you are a thief...

Hmmm, just looked at the website. That name needs to be gone, or you will loose any credibility/respect you may have had.

Get over your stubbornness and move one...

Guys I already told you we are registering a new name at the moment and are waiting for our new website to work, just wanted to check how fast things would go load etc. It wont be skyndicate, skindicate, or anything that can be related to it.
on Aug 20, 2004
Then change it before giving a link...

Anyone who's only been around the skinning community for a short while knows the name Skindicate and who they are. If you're really so fond of heat around your ears, why not call it Wincustomice when you want the speed checked?
on Aug 20, 2004
What a bunch BS! Even I know how easy it is to change text on a website! Just so you know, I'll never visit your site again....... >

GOD who the hell cares about the name? Ok, he borrowed the name from somewhere else, but you're acting as if this sort of thing has never been done before. This happens ALL the time, and sometimes when it happens, people get upset, BUT this isn't some multi-million dollar trademark and it isn't being handled my a multi-million dollar company. It's a small "company" which hasn't had any real work yet, who borrowed a name from, what? A skinning TEAM? A skinning HANDLE? A skinning SUITE? whatever it is, is it really that big of a deal.

God, sometimes I really worry about people's priorities. Styl asked everyone here to give constructive criticism about the look and feel of his website, and everyone here goes berzerk over a NAME! Call it "Skyndication", call it "Skingdome", call it Thy Skingdom Come, WHATEVER, if the site looks crappy and the work done sucks, who cares about the name? By the way, the site is NOT ugly, and I'm sure based on what I've seen of his work, the design and graphics will not suck either. So quit acting like 3 year olds and answer the real question here: Is this an effective, presentable graphics/we design site?

IMHO: I like what I see so far, but I also think the design is very plain. Hardly any color, hardly any depth. Now this may just be representing the style of the particular artists, but methinks not. I would change it up a bit, add a little color, and a little more...stuff. Also, make the portfolio MUCH more interactive and viewable. Right now, all we know based on the site is that these artists can make something that resembles a media player, and they can make some teasers/previews to skins that may (or may not?) even exist.

All in all, nice start, but I think you've got more work to do, IMHO. And about the name? Find something that not only you like, but something that attracts and audience...something that connects well with your intended crowd. Something catchy.

Ciao.

macrobaye: A name means more to some than others. You, for one, should know, shouting louder than most, misusing the name of God and calling yourself Sir.
