Skins and walls from Ron Meijer

I would like a honest opinion about my new webdesign. Don't comment on spelling, I know, will be fixed in 2 day when it goes 'official'.

Thanks. Also, if you see any flaws in code/design, let me know.

Alright never mind people, got a new name and yes, its unique
on Aug 15, 2004

I see that you decided to go with Syndicate with a Y.

I'm not impressed. Whatever, your business. But I can't say that your company rate very high in my esteem so far.

Good!

I say that cause I justed visited your site and it said Syndicate. Glad to hear you decided to change it.

The ones that I liked from the other thread...
SkinWorks
SkinFoundry
PixelMagic
The Craft
Design Bureau
PixelWorks

Of those my favorites are Design Bureau and The Craft, both convey a professionalism and leave you pretty much wide open to what type of graphics work you can do. Having "Skin" in the name kind of pigeon-hole's your business in the minds of others as just focused on skinning. Also glad to hear you've decided to change the name

There once was a thread over at skinz, that has hundreds of made up words with "skin" in it. Too bad you can't view that no more. Might have given you some inspiration.

#28 by craeonics - 8/14/2004 1:01:24 PM Dude, if you can't come up with an original name, what to expect from your business then?

Kind of has a point there... are you doing branding? If you are you 'should' be able to come up with something. No offense to Skindicate, but that sounds more "mob" style than business style. (even the tag line is leaning to that point)

Plus if many people who give you business doesn't even know what skinning is then why have the word "skin" in your name?

I wold advise looking into the pro field of marketing management (as opposed to just looking at skin sites) to get some ideas of what your specifically focusing on. What are your core business competences in? What are your core skills? What is the difference between just hiring a skin author and going for a skin company? What is the difference bewteen you and another skin company?

When you look into these things you might have a better idea of what to call yourself. The name I chose for a company that skins doesn't have 'skin' in it at all.

Are you consulting? marketing? designing? packaging? web design? brand identity, logo design?

Personally, I think you have many words to use that would be very cool and very business like. My advise is to not use the word "skin" anywhere in the name. It will trap you into "a" category and if you decide to grow you might not have much room.
(This is why it is so hard to come up with a name that you will be using.)

I hope that helps.

BTW:
I like what Essencay said:

PixelMagic
The Craft
Design Bureau
PixelWorks

And to add to it:
The Design Studio
Pixel Designs
Unique Identity
The Brand Design
Pixel Branded
Bandit Works
Monopoly Designs (leaning more to that crime thing...)
Business Bureau
Grand Unique Identity (GUI for short...)
GUI Works
Interface Art

There are some good names here but like Crae said, I better come up with my own

JTB, I am not into brand identity anymore, I recently found out that my webdesign skills are 0 at the point of 'business' design. Due to the fact that my 'roots' are in the skinning business I tend to work with heavy graphics and also, I don't really enjoy building websites as much as I enjoy building interfaces. Ofcourse I have done some websites but these, also were heavy graphic. (example: http://www.styl-x.com/frans.jpg

My first priority now is to get my images on a better server, the 5 kb large html files I can host myself but its really a pain to see in my log that it takes about 10 seconds to load my 'home' page.

I am now talking about the domain skinspiration but just found out it would cost me $1000 (not kidding) to BUY the domain name. Its a good investment but not if I could get a name that is just as good for less.

Make a list of names and check whether those domains are still available before you decide on a name. Forking out loads amounts of cash over a domain some bastard squatted just to sell it later just isn't worth the money.
on Aug 17, 2004
I would just check for available domain names as you think of them. If the domain isn't available, it will help you narrow down your list considerably. I spent a day plugging in domain names until I came up with Skinsmith.com and SkinPlant.com. I couldn't decide which to get, so I registered them both.

The Skins Factory appears to have a trademark on "Skindication" (their custom branded players). I don't know if this is different enough from Skyndicate, but I just thought I'd let Styl know.

I like skinspiration. Sounds cool and "inspiring".

Well, if you are one the interface side of things then I would come up with some names that relate to that.

and I know how it feels to want a URL and it is taken. I'll admit I would pay a "squatter" an amount of money for a web domain if it was important for me to have... under 300 dollars that is! This is a small start up or personal site, not a fortune 500 company.

... and no I wouldn't pay 1000 dollars, but that name is pretty sweet. I guess the choice is yours...

Hey I just thought of something, you could put the word 'the' infront of skinspiration (wouldn't suggest 'a' though...) and another suggestion is that the url could only relate to the site name but not BE the site name. The URL could be designskinspiation but the company is just Skinspiration.

Try it!!!!
